Gyrotonic®

Juliu Horvath, a former dancer and Yogi, is the genius behind GYROKINESIS® and Gyrotonic methodologies. Gyrotonicmethodology embraces key principles found in gymnastics, swimming, ballet and yoga which allow the body to work in an integrated manner. The Gyrotonicmethod is performed on equipment designed to enhance coordination, flexibility and strength while allowing total freedom of movement. Exercises, synchronized with corresponding breathing patterns, enhance aerobic and cardiovascular stimulation and promote neuromuscular rejuvenation.

The Gyrotonic equipment offers complete freedom of movement. It is fully adjustable to meet the needs of every body type and level of strength. The even and constant resistance in the handle unit and pulley tower completely eliminates the jarring at the beginning and end of a movement found in conventional exercise equipment, where most injuries occur.

Pilates

In the 1920’s, Joseph H. Pilates created this low-impact conditioning program. Influenced by yoga, gymnastics, skiing, self-defense, dance, circus training and weight training he created a perfect blend of strength and flexibility. When you participate in a Pilates session you will easily see all of these reflected in his work. He utilized his new method, Contrology, on his own body with tremendous results. It was after this that he began teaching others. While he was training detectives in Scotland Yard WWI broke out and due to his German heritage he was interned. During this time he worked with fellow internees. A great number of these internees were wounded from the war and had very serious injuries. This is where his knowledge of rehabilitation began its development.

Performance Enhancement &
Physical Therapy

There are many private practices in the Coachella Valley that offer traditional physical therapy, however few offer the combination of traditional & alternative practices with the 1:1 focus of individualized care that I pride myself on providing.

In addition to my traditional training my approach to physical therapy includes Gyrotonic, & Pilates based principles. Physical therapy utilizing these approaches is more efficient and can be accomplished in less time than traditional therapy. Treating the body as a whole, I recognize that more than just the site of injury may be responsible for pain or dysfunction. Patients thereby become active participants in their healing process, and their commitment along with that of the therapist is essential to their rehabilitation.

I have a strong background and am skilled in treating cardiovascular, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions as well as issues specific to women’s health. Your first appointment is 60 to 90 minutes in length and includes an initial evaluation that consists of a thorough musculoskeletal assessment as well as an analysis of posture & movement. I then combine your personal goals with my professional expertise to create a customized treatment program that enables you to achieve those goals.

Programs geared towards Wellness and Performance Enhancement are also available. These differ from physical therapy provided through the medical model. Insurance companies commonly consider individuals rehabilitated once they can perform activities of daily living, an independent home exercise program and daily functional tasks. Once this has been achieved physical therapy is considered maintenance and is outside of medical justification. These programs provide post-rehabilitation programs as well as enhancing athletic performance. I integrate a thorough understanding of your past medical history, and the mechanical rules your body must follow to get stronger without flaring up your past musculoskeletal issues. The focus is on the design and implementation of a personalized strength and conditioning program to enable you to reach your performance goals.

Insurance

Services are “fee for service” which means payment is due at the time of service. When a health care professional bills insurance as a courtesy to their clients, he or she is providing a loan to each client for the dollar value of the services rendered. This places enough of a financial load on the provider that he or she is required to see more clients for less time in order to remain financially solvent.

I prefer to spend the time with my clients, delivering quality care, allowing time for questions, providing manual therapy interventions, as well as enabling the client to learn new movement patterns and understand how to rehabilitate his or her body. I believe this can not always be accomplished in the 30 minute timeframe that is frequently the duration of traditional physical therapy treatment session.

My clients value their longer sessions, personalized service and the importance of building a professional rapport with their physical therapist. I can provide a computer-generated detailed billing form for each date of service for patients submitting to their insurance company. It is the patients’ responsibility to submit this to their insurance provider for direct reimbursement.

It is each patient’s responsibility to contact their insurance provider to find out what benefits they have for “out of network” physical therapy. It is customary that annual out of network deductible be met prior to obtaining a reduced rate of reimbursement.

Please note that I am not a Medicare Provider.
